Steam Next Fest runs October 19 to 26, and these five free demos cover tower defense, co-op survival, turn-based roguelikes, dice and rhythm.

Steam Next Fest has started, and the demo list is huge. Here are five worth downloading this week, with a quick look at what each one offers, according to the developers and publishers.

PixelJunk Monsters 3

Q-Games, the independent studio from Kyoto, released the first playable demo of PixelJunk Monsters 3, which celebrates the series’ 20th anniversary. The demo is available for the duration of Steam Next Fest.

  • The idea: Run and dance around the battlefield while you build towers to defend your home from waves of monsters.
  • What’s new: The hand-drawn art style returns in 4K, with new roguelike elements, new towers, new enemies and boss battles.
  • Co-op: Play solo, or with up to two players online or locally.
  • Languages: Brazilian Portuguese is among the supported languages.

🎮 Local co-op needs a second pad. An extra wireless controller makes it easy to team up on the couch.

Frostrail

Frostrail, from Barotrauma developer FakeFish and published by Shiro Unlimited, is a brutal co-op survival FPS that ranks in the top 80 most wishlisted unreleased games on Steam. You join a crew of survivors aboard a train crossing a frozen, post-apocalyptic Earth.

  • Keep the train running: Disembark to clear track blockages and scavenge supplies in abandoned settlements and ruins.
  • The threat: Supernatural creatures called Revenants stalk the tundra and attack any group they find.
  • The demo: Explore three areas and fight Revenants in fast-paced co-op FPS action.

Bonus: Shiro Unlimited also updated the demo for Northgard Battlegrounds, adding the Clan of the Wolf ahead of its Early Access launch on October 27.

Delve Survivors

Delve Survivors, from iDiOSLAB and published by NGJ Corporation, asks what happens if a Survivors game was completely turn-based. Enemies only act when you do, so survival depends on positioning and planning, not reflexes.

  • Three classes: Warrior, Archer and Magi.
  • Four dungeons with hundreds of items to build around.
  • Three modes: Casual, HardCore (with permadeath) and Casual Rogue.
  • Controls: Full mouse, keyboard and controller support.
  • Length: More than an hour of gameplay for the average player, according to the developers.

The studio also plans to add Hellgate, a challenging late-game dungeon, later during Next Fest, and the extra dungeons will be playable in the demo only during the event.

Slumber Realm

Slumber Realm, from Chugga Games, is a ’90s-soaked dice roguelike where you battle your childhood fears in your dreams. The updated demo and a new trailer are live now, and the full game arrives on Steam on November 4, 2026.

  • How a turn works: Draft a card into your backpack, roll the die, and cards trigger if the die lands in their range, in sequence.
  • Mix and match: Pick any two Aspects (classes) and draft cards from both.
  • Content: Over 150 cards, over 40 Memories and over 35 Snacks, in runs of around 30 minutes.
  • New in the demo: Full battle animations, harder-hitting combos, new cards and snacks, a redesigned boss fight, bedroom decorations and 35 ’90s-themed achievements.

The developer pitches it to fans of Dicey Dungeons, Slay the Spire and Monster Train.
