If someone had told you ten years ago that millions of people would pay to pressure-wash virtual driveways, you probably would have laughed. Today, PowerWash Simulator is an established hit, and alongside it stand Unpacking, where you pull objects out of boxes and furnish rooms, and Tiny Glade, which doesn’t even have goals. On September 25, 2026, Thinflow Games joined the club with A Needle In A Haystack: Sorting Game, now on Steam. The premise is almost a ready-made joke: there’s a needle hidden in a gigantic pile of hay, and your job is to find it. Literally. Starting with your bare hands.

Three Ingredients of Chill Addiction

These games are very different from one another, but they share the same DNA: low threat, plenty of repetition and instant reward. Visible progress: every pass of the pressure washer leaves a clean stripe, and every handful of hay removed is one less obstacle between you and the goal. Low risk: no bosses, no timers, no game over screen. You can play with your brain half switched off and still feel productive. Constant improvement: the game’s marketing sums up the loop as sort, sell, upgrade. Hay becomes money, money becomes equipment (from bare hands to shovels and ladders, according to the developer), and better equipment lets you tackle bigger piles. It’s the logic of incremental games: you’re always a few minutes away from the next upgrade.

The Fun Is in the Impossible Task

“Finding a needle in a haystack” is the phrase we use for anything hopeless. Turning it into a game objective, and then handing players tools to make the task less ridiculous, is a clever comedic move. The promotional material plays along too: the last line of the feature list says there’s a needle in there somewhere, then adds a wry “probably.”

🖱️ If the search runs long, your wrist will thank you. Hours of hay-sifting call for a comfortable mouse and a large mousepad. The needle may take a while, but your comfort doesn’t have to.

What We Still Need to Find Out

Let’s be honest: the game is brand new, and almost everything we know comes from the developer’s own material. Does the progression hold up for hours, or does it wear thin fast? Do the upgrades change how you play, or just make the numbers on screen go faster? That’s where games in this genre live or die. Only time and players will tell whether it earns a spot among the greats, but the pitch is clear, and sometimes all we want is a small, completable task, the kind the real world rarely delivers.

A Needle In A Haystack: Sorting Game is available for PC on Steam, developed and published by Thinflow Games.
