Microsoft is rolling out a game-changing feature for physical media collectors. The new Xbox Disc to Digital program allows Xbox Insiders to convert select physical game discs directly into permanent digital licenses.

How to Convert Physical Xbox Discs to Digital
The conversion process takes only a few seconds on supported consoles:
- Step 1: Insert the physical game disc into your Xbox console.
- Step 2: Select the Claim option when the system prompt pops up.
- Step 3: The digital license is permanently unlocked on your Microsoft account.
Look out for the new Disc to Digital icon on your dash to confirm activation.
Availability Note: This feature is currently active for members of the Xbox Insider program across Alpha Skip-Ahead, Alpha, and Beta preview rings.
Disc to Digital Error Messages & Warnings
During testing, several common restrictions and prompts were identified:
- Already Owned: “You already have the digital license from that disc.”
- Multi-Disc Sets: “Inserted disc 2 from a multi-disc game, license granted only with disc 1.”
- Unsupported Discs: “This disc doesn’t support a digital license.”
