If you caught one during September’s Mega Finale raids, here’s how to build it, and whether it deserves your rare candy.
Armored Mewtwo made a surprise return to Pokémon GO’s five-star raids on September 5 and 6, during the Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale, its first appearance since 2020. If you walked away from that weekend with one in your box, the question now is what to actually do with it, since it plays very differently from the Mewtwo you’re used to.

What Makes Armored Mewtwo Different
Unlike standard Mewtwo, Armored Mewtwo trades offense for bulk, it hits noticeably softer but survives longer.
- PvE Performance: Poor choice. It does not rank in the top 50 Psychic attackers for raids or gym battles.
- PvP Performance: High value. Its bulk shines in the Master League against heavy hitters.
- Note: Armored Mewtwo cannot be shiny and cannot Mega Evolve.
⚔️ Building a Master League team around it? A Pokémon GO Elite Fast TM and Elite Charged TM bundle is worth having on hand for legacy moves like this.
Best Moveset
PvE Build (Raids & Gyms):
- Fast Move: Confusion
- Charged Move: Psystrike (Legacy move – requires an Elite Charged TM)
- Alternative Charged Move: Future Sight (Non-legacy)
PvP Build (Master League):
- Fast Move: Confusion or Psycho Cut
- Charged Move 1: Dynamic Punch (Closing power against Steel and Normal types)
- Charged Move 2: Rock Slide (Coverage for Flying and Bug threats)
Is It Worth the Investment?
For raid-focused players, the answer is no. Far better Psychic attackers exist in the current meta.
However, for active Master League competitors, Armored Mewtwo’s unique defense makes it a strong, unexpected pick. Power it up only if Master League is part of your daily routine. Otherwise, keep it as a rare event collectible.
🎮 Missed the raid window entirely? Keep an eye on future legendary raid events by checking Pokémon GO event trackers, Armored Mewtwo tends to return for major anniversaries rather than on a fixed schedule.
