The actress behind the live-action Chun-Li greeted fans in the tour’s only Latin American stop, one week before the film reaches Mexican theaters.
Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, appeared at the film’s Mexico City fan event on Thursday, October 8. The gathering took place at Cinépolis Universidad, starting at 4:30 p.m., and gave fans a chance to meet part of the cast in person. Mexico City was the only Latin American stop on the film’s promotional tour, and Liang turned heads on the Street Fighter backdrop in a ruffled mini dress with a sculpted, wing-like collar and a sheer, textured bodice. Photos from the event spread quickly across social media.
Why Mexico City?
The choice makes sense: the movie arrives in Mexican cinemas on October 15, just a week after the fan event, and Latin American audiences have long been among the most passionate in the fighting game community. The visit is part of a press tour that has kept the film in the spotlight for weeks, following earlier stunts like a life-size arcade cabinet with live fighters in Times Square.

What to Expect From the Film
Set in 1993, the movie follows estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who are pulled back into combat when Chun-Li, played by Liang, recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. Liang was cast in June 2025 and has said she studied Chun-Li’s movements across the games, going through the footage in slow motion to understand how the character fights, not just how she looks. A teaser released earlier also showed live-action recreations of signature moves from the series.
Where Things Stand
With release day approaching, Liang’s press tour has become part of the event itself, and fan reaction to her take on Chun-Li has been largely positive. Release dates vary by country, so check your local cinema listings to see when the film opens near you.
